Dub Special began as a low-frequency experiment in the Rabbithole. Started underground, slowly spreading through the physical pull of bass, and gradually forming sincere connections along the way.
This time, we join forces with Formosa Sound System and Far East Sporting Wave to carry these vibrations beyond the city, into the open space of Tiger Mountain.
On February 7th, from 2 PM to 10 PM, the Formosa Sound System will run at full power all day long, tracing a sonic journey from Dub to Dancehall.
Witness Tapes (UK) weaving uncanny soundscapes from cassette hiss and digital phantoms, and Element (JP) precisely navigating between weighty low-end pressure and drifting atmospheres, guiding the flow of sound with intent. Joined by a solid local lineup, the bass will ripple outward in layered waves, traveling through the forest and echoing ever farther, until it returns to the Rabbithole, where Far East Run takes over the After Party.
A continuous celebration lasting over 12 hours in total— let's see who's still on the floor when we reach the dawn.

Originally hailing from South London, Tapes made his debut release on esteemed 8-bit digital reggae label Jahtari in 2009 with the “Hissing Theatricals” EP. In the 15 years since, a wide variety of releases continued on a host of acclaimed labels.
Soon after, a spate of releases and appearances continued on labels such as Honest Jons, Sextags, Astro:dynamics, Meeuw Musak, Porridge Bullet, EM Records, Research Records, Good Morning Tapes and Cav Empt. He has also toured as a DJ and Live performer extensively world wide and hosts regular “all night long” sessions in Tallinn, where he now resides.
Recently, and in cellebration of the labels 20th anniversary, Tapes returned to Jahtari with “Photos of my Frog EP“. The records four amphibious instrumental scorchers with two accompanying 8-bit versions have become the bed-rock of his current live sets, mixing these up with other unreleased dubplate versions of Tapes tunes new and old.
Tapes is a musician who continues to follow his own eccentric compass – guided by tape hiss, digital ghosts, and an unshakable fascination with the small, strange beauties of the everyday.
Element (JP)
DJ, producer, and co-owner of the Riddim Chango imprint, Element was born in Kyoto, Japan, and later relocated to London. During his 9-year stint in the UK, he immersed himself in UK’s soundsystem culture, music scene, DJing, worked as a Reggae buyer at a second-hand record shop, and launched his label.
His sound, a unique blend of Dub, Roots, and Dancehall, resonates distinctively within the music scene. Notable collaborations include the critically-acclaimed "Freedom" with Jamaican poet Nazamba, a potent exploration of black oppression, and the boundary-pushing Andromeda EP with the LA/JA dancehall collective, Duppy Gun. His upcoming work, an EP due for release on Tokyo's experimental label, newdubhall, in June 2023, promises further innovative strides.
As a DJ, Element expertly balances the gravitational with the ethereal, and the void with the luminary, infusing his sets with elements of dub and rave, crafting a sonic journey that captivates his audience.
